SUMMARY:Palio del Torrione
DESCRIPTION:The Palio del Torrione was established in 1997. The historical reenactment draws inspiration from two elements of the town’s history: the legend of a dragon’s presence in its territory and the presence of Caterina Sforza. \nEach of the four wards into which the town is divided must designate one lady and four knights to contest the Palio. The ladies of the drawn wards ascend the castle in their respective tower\, armed with a spear they will have to pierce the dragon placed in the center of the castle. \nThe knights at the base of the castle will have to push their checkers’ tower as close to the target as possible\, hindering the advance of the opposing ward. The race is held in two heats\, in case of a tie\, a run-off will be held. The ward that has made the highest score and won the most heats wins the Palio. \nHistorical parade\, games for young and old\, events\, and several food stations. \nFor more information\, please visit www.paliodeltorrione.it and https://www.proloco-mordano.it/

SUMMARY:Lòm a Mêrz - The Work of the Peasants
DESCRIPTION:March lights\nLòm a Mêrz are an ancient peasant custom. \nAccording to tradition\, people would gather in farmyards and light a large bonfire. It was intended to shed light on spring and was a good omen for crops. \nIn the last days of February and the first days of March\, songs\, dancing around the fire and especially excellent local dishes cheered up the evenings in the countryside. \nToday this festival comes to life once again thanks to a rich program of events organized by Il Lavoro dei Contadini\, a group of agricultural entrepreneurs committed to the recovery of our area’s rural culture. \nThis year’s theme will be “Good as Bread\,” which aims to explore the relationship between “Land\, environmental sustainability\, biodiversity\, ancient grains\, flours\, home cooking\, and proper nutrition.” \nFor more information\, visit the official website and download the event program. \nFACEBOOK page

SUMMARY:Dumpling Festival
DESCRIPTION:History of the Festival\nIt has been held in Casalfiumanese since 1925\, first in conjunction with the St. Joseph’s Cattle Fair\, which dates back to 1738.\nThe then mayor\, Count Alessandretti\, arranged for dumplings to be distributed to the children so that they could participate in the festivities along with the adults.\nHence the tradition of throwing these typical sweets filled with jam or mustard on those present.\nIt was a festive occasion for the whole village and was celebrated with hearty lunches. \nThe Festival Today\nToday the fair has been discontinued and the event takes place on the Sunday closest to March 19.\nOn this day\, ravioli\, the typical local jam-filled sweets\, are thrown to the crowd.\nThis is surrounded with performances and floats\, under the watchful eye of the so-called “Count Raviolone\,” a character created to entertain and amuse the public while waiting for the distribution of ravioli.\nThis year also features an additional day of celebration: Saturday\, March 21 is the “Night Before the Raviolo”\, with music and food stands to liven up the evening. \nOn the morning of March 22\, the competitive Trail begins for the most trained participants\, or a simple walk for those who wish to join one of the valley’s most popular festivals. The start is scheduled for 10:00 AM on March 22 with two participation options. On the one hand\, the 16-kilometer competitive trail\, with registration already available at www.endu.net\, and on the other hand\, the 10-kilometer non-competitive walk with participant registration on site. \nFor more info visit the Facebook page. \n

SUMMARY:Carnival of San Lazzaro in Borgo
DESCRIPTION:39th edition of the San Lazzaro in Borgo Carnival \n\nThe feast of San Lazzaro takes place every year two weeks before Easter. Tradition has it that since ancient times\, on this day\, the people of Faenza would go to the Lazzaretto (at the time a leper hospital) on the Via Emilia\, adjacent to the church of San Lazzaro (currently a monument dedicated to road accident victims)\, to offer tortelli and saba to the patients to alleviate their suffering\, if only for a short time. In keeping with this tradition\, the San Lazzaro Committee organizes the event every year\, involving all the citizens of Faenza and neighboring municipalities. Over eight thousand people attend the festival. \n\nThe specialty of the festival is the TORTELLO\, which is identified with the tradition of this feast. The tortello is a typical sweet of the Faenza area\, unique and inimitable. Originally\, it was a humble dessert that gradually became richer as living conditions improved. In the past\, tortelli were made with a dough of flour\, water\, and salt\, filled with boiled chestnuts\, then baked in the oven and finally dipped in saba. In modern times\, the dough is made by mixing flour\, eggs\, milk\, butter\, and sugar\, while the filling is obtained by blending boiled chestnuts with chocolate\, jam\, candied fruit\, and other ingredients at discretion\, and after baking\, they are dipped in saba. \n\nSaba is a wine produced through a special process handed down from generation to generation (cooked must used as a condiment). The tortello has an elongated shape with a wheat spike closure\, and presumed historians argue that this shape might be inspired by the figure of Lazarus wrapped in burial bands. In the past\, every family in the borgo produced a large quantity of tortelli\, and on the day of the feast\, all the doors of the houses were open\, and everyone could visit the families and eat tortelli and drink a glass of good wine.\n\nSan Lazzaro in Borgo\, besides the specialty of TORTELLO\, is also CARNIVAL. \n\nPROGRAM\n SUNDAY\, APRIL 22\, 2026 \n\n\n\n\nFrom 2:30 PM onwards\, floats and masked groups parade through the streets of Borgo D’Urbecco in a triumph of confetti and streamers. \nThe Committee also organizes side events\, such as concerts for young people\, painting exhibitions\, walks along the banks of the Lamone River\, and other cultural events. During the festival\, there are plenty of stalls and food stands\, and at the end of the evening\, generous prizes are raffled off among all participants. \n\n\nFor more information\nhttps://www.carnevalefaenza.altervista.org/index.html
