Pentecost Festival
21 May - 25 May
Ancient religious and civic celebration.
The Pentecost Festival is a town square celebration whose origins (1631 A.D.) stem from a vow made by the people of Castel Bolognese to the Madonna of the Conception for protection from the plague.
The festival has a unique origin. In 1630, a terrible plague ravaged Romagna. However, it is said that thanks to the intervention of the Madonna of the Conception, the town of Castel Bolognese was miraculously spared from the misfortune.
The citizens turned to her in those days with heartfelt supplications and devout prayers.
On June 15 of that same year, to preserve the memory of the Grace received, the people of Castel Bolognese made a unique popular vow: during the three days of Pentecost, the miraculous Sacred Image of the Conception would be celebrated every year.
Over the centuries, the popular celebration has never lost its original character. Indeed, the religious meaning that inspires these festive days has always been maintained.
Today, the Pentecost Festival is an event that combines local culture with musical performances featuring nationally renowned artists, as well as an excellent food stand where Romagna cuisine takes center stage.
The five days of Pentecost, from May 21 to 25, 2026, transform the renovated Piazza Bernardi and the historic center of Castel Bolognese into the heart of Romagna tradition with a program of events that never ceases to amaze.
