March lights

Lòm a Mêrz are an ancient peasant custom.

According to tradition, people would gather in farmyards and light a large bonfire. It was intended to shed light on spring and was a good omen for crops.

In the last days of February and the first days of March, songs, dancing around the fire and especially excellent local dishes cheered up the evenings in the countryside.

Today this festival comes to life once again thanks to a rich program of events organized by Il Lavoro dei Contadini, a group of agricultural entrepreneurs committed to the recovery of our area’s rural culture.

This year’s theme will be “Good as Bread,” which aims to explore the relationship between “Land, environmental sustainability, biodiversity, ancient grains, flours, home cooking, and proper nutrition.”
