The Rhein-Neckar Jazz Orchester from Weinheim is preparing its new tour and returns to Italy as cultural ambassador of the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis District.

Following the great success of its previous Italian tour in 2018, the orchestra returns to the Teatro Comunale Ebe Stignani on May 26 at 8:30 PM, as part of the international relations between Imola and its twin city Weinheim.

Conducted by Maestro Jochen Welsch, the 18 musicians and singer Isabel Haist will bring to the stage big band classics, orchestral arrangements, and new contemporary compositions—some written by the band members themselves.

Highlights of the program include the exhilarating classic “The Heat’s On” by Sammy Nestico, Thad Jones’s “Us” from the Village Vanguard Orchestra, as well as Astor Piazzolla’s “Libertango” in a big band arrangement by Michael Philip Mossman.

Several Latin grooves will follow, and the Italian hit “Azzurro” in Rainer Tempel’s arrangement will not be missed.

A jazz experience rich in passion, variety, and energy—capable of musically uniting the Rhine-Neckar District and Italy.

The concert is free of charge. Seats can be reserved through the Teatro Stignani online shop at the following link: https://www.vivaticket.com/it/ticket/rhein-neckar-jazz-orchester-in-concerto/301742

Theater access from 8:00 PM.

The Rhein-Neckar Jazz Orchester

The Rhein-Neckar Jazz Orchester (RNJO) from Weinheim boasts over 30 years of history and brings together musicians from throughout the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan district. It performs in the classic big band formation and is distinguished by a coherent musical concept and an extensive repertoire—from swing and bebop to funk and Latin, through to fusion and contemporary compositions and arrangements.

Concerts in the region, but also throughout Germany and abroad, in jazz clubs and festivals, delight not only swing and bebop enthusiasts, but also lovers of Latin and fusion pieces. For many years, the RNJO has been an active cultural ambassador of the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis through tours in partner regions abroad.

An important milestone in the band’s history is the release, in 2020, of the studio album “Out Of the Circle,” which features original arrangements and compositions by artists from the Rhine-Neckar region.

The Band Director

Since early 2018, Maestro Jochen Welsch from Mannheim has conducted the Rhein-Neckar Jazz Orchester. He studied jazz trombone at the conservatories of Nuremberg-Augsburg and Mannheim. In addition to his work as a musician, composer, and arranger, he has been a lecturer at the Mannheim Academy of Music for many years and conducts several big bands and ensemble formations. With great personal commitment, solid musical expertise, and extensive experience, he leaves his mark both in rehearsals and in repertoire selection.
